D) Hypnotherapy is a collaborative effort, wherein the client and hypnotherapist interact and work together. Via the naturally occurring phenomena of hypnosis, we strive to bring about the positive changes that the client has identified as desirable, and to achieve lasting improvement in the quality of the clients life. The client remains in complete control of their decision-making processes.
E) Hypnotherapy is partly based upon the theory that within the subconscious mind reside our memories, habit patterns, our most deeply held beliefs about ourselves, and what we believe is possible for us. It is these deeply held patterns and beliefs that drive our decisions, shape our perceptions, and affect the quality of our lives. When we desire to make a lasting, positive change, it is these subconscious patterns that we must change. There is also evidence that suggests that, through hypnosis, a person can modify the manner in which their brain handles stimuli, such as pain, allowing one to change or eliminate the perception of pain and similar stimuli.
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring alteration in the state of consciousness, wherein awareness is focused, and suggestibility is significantly increased. Mediated by hypnosis, memory and present-time perceptual experience are subject to modification, as are many, typically involuntary, physiological functions. Hypnosis can be systematically induced, permitting the utilization of the above phenomena for a wide variety therapeutic applications.
