No Greater Meaning

If there is no "greater meaning" to existence
why bother?
why strive
to alleviate suffering?
If for no other reason than because there is suffering
here and now
that may be soothed.
Whether there is a "greater meaning"

Is the argument tautological?
Yes.
But I cannot escape it.
I am caught
a moth in the web of unfathomable existence
while time's implacable spider
slowly draws the life from my flesh
until the experiment is at last completed
and I am privy to the result.
