Build Your Own Frame Drum!

Drum-making Workshops with
David Pierce

Over three sessions, a roughly 12 hour course, each workshop participant will build a beautiful frame drum. The drum you build will be a ten-sided circle in shape (decagon), about 16 inches in diameter, and 3 inches deep. The kind of animal hide used to build the drum will depend upon seasonal availability.

Those lacking any woodworking or craft making experience needn't let this concern them. This workshop was designed with you in mind. It is very difficult to make a drum that doesn't work.

This workshop is as much about the exploring Mystery, one's Self, Community, our Ancestors, Healing, our connection with this precious planet, as it is about building a drum. We begin with an exploration of what calls you to build a drum, and journey to discover the energies and forms that will be assisting you in process of creating this drum. By the end of the first session you will have constructed the drum hoop and shaped the leather drum head and laces.

On the next day we finish out the hoop (filing and sanding) and lace the drumhead to the hoop. Finally, in the third session, we celebrate the birth of these new drums, and undertake a special journey to discover the images that arise from our Hearts and our Relationship with the drum we have formed. The workshops are held in Paradise, California (1500ft elevation). Throughout, the workshop will be sprinkled with Stories, Spirit, and Fun!

The cost, for this workshop is $150 US. This includes all materials, and tuition. Vegetarian snacks are also included each session and a vegetarian midday meal will be provided for the all-day, second session. A non-refundable deposit of $75 US, to cover the cost of materials, will reserve you a spot in this workshop. Deposit must be received by August 15, 2007

Space is limited to 10 participants, so sign up soon!

The schedule for the next Singing Drum Workshop is: September 14 - 16, 2007
